Suspended Ahmad: CAF appoints interim President

Constant Omari will take over from the suspended Ahmad Ahmad, says Confederations of African Football (CAF).

The adjudicatory chamber of the FIFA independent Ethics Committee has just declared Mr Ahmad Ahmad, President CAF, and Vice-President of FIFA, responsible for having acted in violation of the FIFA Code of ethics.

According to the Ethics body, the Madagascan administrator was guilty of misappropriation of funds and offering gifts as CAF President and FIFA Vice-President.


Consequently, the adjudicatory chamber banned him from all football-related activities (administrative, sports and other) at the national and international levels for a period of five years.

In addition, Ahmad Ahmad, was also slammed with a fine of CHF 200,000 (219, 000 USD).

And in response to the sanction on its President, CAF has swiftly reacted by announcing Omari has the body interim President.

“CAF and CAF President take note of this decision which puts Mr Ahmad Ahmad in a position of no longer being able to exercise his responsibilities,” read a message that was released by Alexandre Siewe, CAF’s Communication director.

“In accordance with its statutes, CAF announces that the current interim of Mr Constant Selemani Omari as President of CAF is extended.

CAF which is concerned about the reputational consequences of this long procedure, maintains the schedule of all its activities and programs.”

The CAFf new President, Constant Omari is a Congolese football administrator and a member of the FIFA council.

The 62-year-old, who is the Chairman of FIFA’s Task Force Against Racism and Discrimination, was nominated as CAF’s 1st Vice-President in July 2019, when Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick stepped down from the position.
