I joined Arsenal to win trophies – Willian

Willian joins Arsenal

The Brazilian left Chelsea after his contract expired but will remain in London after penning a three-year deal with Arsenal.

Arsenal have confirmed that Willian has signed a three-year deal with the club ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The Brazil international in his seven meritorious service years with Chelsea, racked up 339 appearances, with 63 goals and 56 assists.

With two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and the Europa League to his name, the 32-year-old said he jumped the ship to the other side of London because he believed in the new Arsenal project under Mikel Arteta that could fetch him more trophies.

“I came to help,” Willian said. “I came to try to win trophies because this club deserves to win trophies.

“Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world and they’re with a new project. I believe this club needs to shine again and I want to be a part of this project – be a part of the family. I’m happy to do that.”

Upon Willian’s confirmation as an Arsenal player, the North London club head coach Arteta remarked, “I believe he’s a player that can really make a difference for us.

“We have been monitoring him for the past few months, we had a clear intention to strengthen in the attacking midfielder and the winger positions [and] he is a player that gives us a lot of versatility, he can play in three or four different positions.

“He has the experience of everything in the football world but to still have the ambition to come here and contribute to bring the club where it belongs. I have been really impressed with all the talks I have had with him and how much he wanted to come.”

Arsenal technical director added, “I know him very well, since a long time ago because we’ve been working together for the Brazilian national team and of course I was following him because he played for another club.

“He has a lot of fantastic attributes as a person, as a football player, of course, his character. I’m 100 per cent sure that everybody in the dressing room, the fans, myself and Mikel will enjoy having Willian in our side.”

Arsenal revealed the former Shakhtar Donetsk will don the No. 12 shirt.
