Talks on my contract will commence after first game, reveals new Akwa United coach Kennedy Boboye

Following the resignation of erstwhile manager John Obuh, Akwa United, yesterday, announced the appointment of Kennedy Boboye as their new manager.

Ex-coach John Obuh stepped down from the helms at the Promise Keeper aftermath the 3-0 defeat to Lagos based side MFM FC.

The club, who last season narrowly missed out on a continental ticket, is currently 16th on league standing – winning just a game from 8 matches.

Meanwhile, a delighted Boboye, who has commenced operation with his new side said in an interview with Brila FM that talks over his contract would start after his first game against Rivers United on Wednesday.

“After the game tomorrow, then we discuss about the contract,” Boboye, the new Akwa United coach said.

Boboye, who guided, Plateau United to the league triumph in 2017 was also asked on whether Nigerian club sides respect the contracts of the club coaches.

The Akwa United coach continued: “Mostly they don’t do, but it depends on the clause you’ve with the contract you’re tying with the club because coaches are different.

“But some coaches do take a job because they want to take a job and start working and anything that comes from it, they go by it. But some other coaches have clauses in their contract. It happens that 20-30% when you’re being sacked, they pay you your entitlement and you’re let go.

“Some, they sack and let them just go.”

Boboye, who is also part of the Super Eagles coaching crew, aside Plateau United has had spells with Sunshine Stars, Abia Warriors, and Remo Stars.
