Super Eagles: Brazil coach names Nigeria’s most feared player

Alex Iwobi is Super Eagles danger man, according to Brazil’s assistant coach Cleber Xavier

The five-time world champions will face Senegal today before locking horns with the Super Eagles on Sunday.

Clever Xavier, an assistant coach for the Selecao, while expecting tough matches from the two African sides, also pointed out the danger men for the respective sides.

On the Teranga Lions, Xavier told BBC, “Senegal is a very well trained and strong team. They conceded few goals during the Africa Cup of Nations with interesting players like Sadio Mane and Idrissa Gueye.

“Ismaila Sarr on the wing is a player of individual actions and in the centre, M’Baye Niang plays as a pivot, a support player for Sarr and Mane to feed off.

“It is a direct team that seeks Mane with the long ball, a transition from defence to attack geared around him. It is a demanding team.”

On threat expected from the Super Eagles, the coach continued, “At Nigeria, Iwobi plays more of an inside role as a second striker than at Everton.

“He is the link in the counter-attack, drags opponents out of position and infiltrates well in the box.”

Meanwhile, a former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu had warned the players that Nigerians wouldn’t want to see any less of the team’s A-game against the Selecao on Sunday.

Kanu as quoted by Footballlive.ng, “There is a lot of pressure because everybody loves football, they don’t want to hear that Nigeria went to a game and lost.

“I don’t think people will really appreciate the boys if they lost in a friendly game, that’s how it is here.

“The boys have to take it on board and ensure that every game they play, they have to do well.”

“Playing against Brazil will show the level of football they are playing and where they are, and if they can beat Brazil, the confidence and belief of the boys will grow.”

“And for me, it’s always tough when Nigeria and Brazil play each other, whoever will represent us should know it’s not a friendly game.”
