I never enjoyed football in Madrid – Ceballos

Leaving Real Madrid was a ‘success’ – Dani Ceballos opens up on his future

Dani Ceballos, a Los Blancos loanee to Arsenal says he’s now where he enjoys football again.

Signed from Real Betis in 2016-17 season, Ceballos only played just played 56 games for the La Liga giants – most of which were from the substitute bench.

Ahead of the ongoing campaign, the Spaniard moved to London on a season loan – and according to him, he never enjoyed football life at Real Madrid.

“It was clear I wanted to leave,” Ceballos said at a press conference ahead of Spain European qualifiers against Norway on Saturday.

“I’ve been successful in leaving, now I’m where I want to be and I’m very happy.

“My idea was to leave, play and enjoy football. In the previous two years, I hadn’t done that.”

In his debut game for Arsenal, Ceballos created two assists – and he has further racked up nine more games, scoring one goal.

The former Betis midfielder is expected to line-up alongside Busquet in Spains’s upcoming matches, and the Arsenal player was full of praise for the Barcelona midfielder, who he deemed “a reference for young people.”

He added: “I love playing with Busquets. He measures the time and speed of the game very well.

“He’s a reference for young people.”
