Nigeria can win Qatar 2022 World Cup – Amunike

Winning U-17 World Cup an indication that we can win the senior World Cup, Amunike

The former Nigeria international has tipped the Super Eagles to conquer the world at Qatar 2022.

The farthest the three-time African champions have gotten to at the World Cup is the round 16 stage and just Ghana, Cameroon, and Senegal are the only African countries to have reached the quarter-final stage.

However, Amunike, an integral part of the Nigeria 1994 AFCON winning squad believes to win the Mundial requires a well-thought-out plan.

“Whether anybody likes it or not and I repeat it if it pleases God, that 2022 in Qatar, an African team can win a world cup or if not win it, can do something meaningful,” the 1994 African Best Player told Brila FM.

“We can’t just achieve these by speaking too much English, we can bring a lot of people from England to see how we can develop our players in Nigeria, let’s see how we can create a balance.

“If we can dominate the world in the U17 level five times, why can’t we do it in the senior level.”

Amunike continued, “I still have that belief that if we stick to and do the needful, our players need to work hard and when we can develop this concept, preach that our players must not believe that they must have a contact, pay money to come to the national team, they must believe that for me to be in the National team I deserved it, I merit it, it is not because I know someone,”

“If all these things stated above are adhered to, in the nearest future Nigeria can win the world cup.

“… we have what it takes to win the World Cup if we can be winning the U17….”
