Disappointed Semi Ajayi backs Eagles to win AFCON
I will be supporting Nigeria – gutted Semi Ajayi says.
Semi Ajayi and Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho were the two players omitted from the Super Eagles squad for the AFCON 2019 but has backed his teammates to win the competition.
The 25-year-old Rotherham United player netted eight goals last season, but his goal tally from his defensive midfield position was unable to cement a place for him in the Super Eagles team to the 32nd edition of the AFCON
Whilst disappointed to have been omitted from the squad to Egypt, the defender has said he would be cheering the team to win the trophy.
The Arsenal graduate wrote on his Instagtram page @semishems: “Wishing my brothers the best of luck at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
“It’s been a privilege to have been part of this squad and as much as I’m gutted that I can’t make it I wish everyone linked with the Super Eagles the very best of luck this summer.“
“I will be supporting the team until the end. Go and make Nigeria proud my brothers”

Semi Ajayi, who was capped on 3 occasions by the Nigerian U-20 team, made his senior debut in 2018 in an AFCON qualifying game against Seychelles, where he replaced injured Ola Aina in the 73rd minute.
The former Charlton player described his debut as a dream call up and has went on to rack four more appearances in the colours of Nigeria.
