Real Madrid players objected Mourinho 's return

Unwanted Mourinho would be a step backward for Real Madrid – Calderon

Ramon Calderon, Real Madrid President from 2006-09 revealed that top Madrid players protested the return of the Jose Mourinho to the club.

Although the Portugues delivered LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de Espana in his three years {2010-13} at Real Madrid, such success would count for nothing, as it has been reported that players were against his return to the Spanish side.

After the abysmal display on Tuesday night, where Madrid got knocked out of the Champions League in the hands of Ajax, Zinedine Zidane, who won a three Champions League on a bounce for the Los Blancos was brought back to the dugout less than 10 months he resigned from his duty at the club.

Calderon, who said the return of Mourinho would have been a step backward for Madrid, also revealed that big players in the dressing room were loud over the discord the former United boss could bring to the dressing room.

“The dressing room leaders pushed to reject the possibility of Jose Mourinho,” Calderon told Skysports.

“He left [Real Madrid] a lot of problems and I think he would have been another problem to the ones we already have if he had come.I think Jose Mourinho would have been a step backwards, there was a lot of problems and controversy when he was here.

“He is a good coach with a lot of trophies but many of the leaders in the dressing room didn’t like him and I think that was important in the decision-making.”

Calderon: Zidane is loved

On Zidane’s come back, he added: “The players loved him and he was able to change the ideas of coaches like Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho who managed with a strong hand.

“And of course he is an idol with the fans – playing for the club as well as managing them to three Champions League trophies in a row.”
