Robert Fernandez: Pique is the greatest centre-back of all-time

Pique is the greatest defender of all-time.

Gerard Pique is the best centre-back of all time, according to former Barcelona Sporting Director Robert Fernandez.

Fernandez is a 29-capped Spain international and represented Barcelona from 1986-90 season.

The 56-year-old, who scored 35 goals in 144 appearances for the Blaugrana, returned to the club as Sporting Director in 2015, and stepped down in 2018, as a result of a frosty relationship with President Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Pique started his career in the Barcelona youth team, but joined English side Manchester United on a free in 2004, and staged a return to his boyhood club four years later.

The 32-year-old has helped Barca to seven league titles, four Champions League, six Copa Del Rey titles, amidst other club major titles, and he was part of the Spain squad that won the World Cup in 2010, and the European Championship in 2012.
