Sarri is tarnishing Chelsea players’ image

Maurizio Sarri resigned to a collective criticisms of his players aftermath Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

Sarri is putting his players’ images on the line with the collective criticisms of his squad, says former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott.

With four defeats in the club’s last 12 games, coupled tactical choices, the former Napoli manager has come under heavy criticisms recently.

Speaking on Saturday, an angry Sarri criticised his players for being hard to motivate – describing the defeat as unacceptable.

Lescott, a former Man City and Everton defender told Skysports Debate, “You’re tarnishing everyone.

“It’s almost better to name individuals. I never did that but they all feel like they’re all part of the same team which they are.

“I don’t think it helps him, I think it’s an error of judgement he wishes he didn’t make. The game has changed now, you cannot manage how you want to manage any longer. He might have done it in the past and got away with it, but you have to do it a different way now.

“They’re all millionaires, don’t really have that real hunger to go there and go that extra mile, it’s a little bit of an error in my opinion to do that.”

Also corroborating Lescott’s stance was former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood, who posited that the players might ganged up against Sarri for criticising the squad.
