Balotelli joins Marseille

The Italian has agreed to move to the Stade Velodrome stadium on a free from fellow French side Nice.

Mario Balotelli joins Marseille on a six-month deal until the end of the season whilst the 28-year-old expected to earn around £2.7m in wages.

The former Manchester City and Liverpool player arrived in Marseille on Tuesday night for medicals and to finalise his contract – and later unveiled to the media on Wednesday afternoon.

The erratic player scored 42 goals in 64 appearances in total at Nice, but it was an ignominious ending for him at the club with a run of poor performance and a tumultuous relationship with manager Patrick Viera.

Balotelli, who was released by Nice told the media at his unveiling, “I know that the fans are expecting a lot from me,”

“I have to train, that’s what I miss, but I feel good, I’m in good shape.

“Marseille has a passionate fanbase, all players see it, it’s something we don’t forget, I had deliberately published my message to the OM supporters because I was hoping to come here.

“Scoring goals is not a question of life or death, it is not the priority, I will not die if I do not score quickly”

“My goal is to score as many goals as possible, but the most important thing is the team.”

Balotelli could be in line to feature for Marseille, who sit fifth in the Ligue 1 table in their next game against Lille.
