Spygate: I once hid in a laundry basket, Mourinho

Real Madrid players objected Mourinho 's return

Following the ‘spygate’ scandal at Leeds, Mourinho confirmed he hid in a laundry basket for Chelsea Champions League quarter-final tie with Bayern Munich in 2005.

The Portuguese was punished with a two game ban for imprudence in the previous round against Barcelona – a punishment that was meant to keep him out of contact during the both legs of the quarter-final roun

The then Chelsea boss, who was relieved of his job at Manchester United in December, told BeinSports that he was once concealed in a laundry basket used for transporting the club’s kit to get round a UEFA ban.

“I need to be with my players and I did it yeah,” The 56-year-old said.

“I go to the dressing room during the day so I was there from midday and the game is seven o’clock. I just want to be in the dressing room when the players arrive. I went there and nobody saw me.

“The problem was to leave after. And the kit man put me in the basket. It was a little bit open so I could breathe.

“But when he was taking it outside the dressing room, the Uefa guys were following and desperate to find me so he closed the box and I couldn’t breathe.

“When he opened the box I was dying.”

Mourinho, having rejected a job offer from Benfica aftermath his sack at United, also established turning down two other offers – saying “I didn’t feel it was what I want.”

However, the former United, Chelsea, Madrid Inter Milan and FC Porto manager had confirmed he would be back to management soon, as he believed he was too young to retire.
