The former Super Eagles striker has tipped the young striker to be a suitable replacement for Odion Ighalo, who is currently Nigeria first-choice striker.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni posited that Ighalo is presently Nigeria’s best striker, but Victor Osimhen could slot in as a replacement in his absence.

Osimhen, who has netted 15 goals for his Belgium side Charleroi this season, is being linked to the two Milan clubs, PSG and also Bayern Munich.

Speaking told Completesports, Aiyegbeni said: “If Ighalo continues scoring this way it will be very difficult for him to be benched. He’s the Super Eagles best striker at the moment, no doubt.

“They have good strikers coming into the team at the moment – the likes of Osimhen, Onuachu and the likes, but he {Ighalo} possesses everything you need in a striker to get the goals.

Osimhen, 21, represented Nigeria at the at the 2015 U-17 World Cup in Chile, where he won the Golden Boot and the Silver Ball Award.

The 21 years old has also the country at the U-20 levels and is also expected to be amongst the players that will be named by Gernot Rohr for the African Cup of Nations that starts June 21.
