Super Eagles: Rohr omits Iheanacho from Seychelles and Egypt games, Mikel still not called up
Kelechi Iheanacho has been omitted from the Nigeria squad that will face Seychelles and Egypt later this month, as Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr releases his 23-man list. The Leicester forwards has been struggling for form this season, still to score for the Foxes in this calendar, and has been excluded from the Eagles latest squad list, with Victor Osimhen and Odion Ighalo the preferred central strikers.
The 23-man list sees Rohr give Enyimba defender Valentine Ozornwafor his first call up, as well FC Midtjylland forward Paul Onuachu.
Also missing in the squad is skipper, John Mikel Obi, who
has not featured in any of the qualifying matches. Mikel who recently joined English second-tier side Middlesbrough, is still to appear in any competitive game for Nigeria since the World Cup in Russia, and it remains to be seen whether his international career hasn’t run its course.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Seychelles, whom they beat 3-0 in the reverse fixture, in their last game of the 2019 African Nations Cup qualifying series on March 22, before a friendly match with the competition’s host Egypt four days later.
