Kluivert: Rigid Sarri must adjust to suit players
Patrick Kluivert has advised the Chelsea manager, who is a subject of criticism to be more flexible in his tactical approach.
The 6-0 humiliation at Etihad on Sunday, was Chelsea fourth away defeat in a row – leaving the side sitting in sixth place.
The latest result is putting Maurizio Sarri’s future on the line, and while Kluivert, a former Barcelona player maintained Sarri’s players must step up and that he needed more time, he opined that the former Napoli coach needed to be flexible in his approach.
He said on Skysport Monday Night Football: “First of all the players need to look at themselves – it is a team effort, they are really lacking in team spirit.
“You cannot give all the blame to the coach. It is a matter of results, and this result against City was a disaster. You have to look at the players and put them in the right position.
“If they do not fit into the system you want to play, you have to change the system.
“If you look at these players individually, I would love to work with these players and give them the opportunity to play in the position where they need to play. I think that he needs more time. It is not easy.”
Speaking after Chelsea’s defeat on Sunday, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher said, Sarri was turning Chelsea into a weak time like Arsenal.
