Liverpool could be one of the top favourites to win this year Champions League, says Clarence Seedorf.
The Jurgen Klopp led side were finalist last year, but blunders from erstwhile goalkeeper Lorius Karius cost the English side a fifth Champions League title, as they were beaten by 3-1 by Real Madrid.
The addition of Allison Becker from Roma in the summer, rock-solid defending from last winter acquisition Virgil Van Dijk, and high-flying performance that has yielded 20 goals in all competitions from star man Mohammed Salah has made Liverpool devastating for nearly all oppositions this term.
Whilst unconvincing in the group stage of the Champions League, Seedorf in an interview with Marca said the four-time winner are one of the favourites to win the competition.
“It’s a special season and it’s perhaps a little early to say who can win it,” the former Netherland midfielder said.
“The team that doesn’t necessarily excel in the first half of the tournament could become devastating in the second half. Looking also at the experience of recent years, probably Liverpool could be one of the favourites. Despite not playing particularly well in the group phase, they are doing very well in the Premier League.
“Juventus could also reach the final, but there is a long list of teams they would have to beat. Atletico Madrid, PSG, Bayern, Barcelona and Manchester City… all of them could compete for the trophy.”
For the Jurgen Klopp side to stand a chance of winning their fifth Champions League title, they will have to defeat Bayern Munich that they will be hosting next Tuesday, before a return leg at the Allianz Arena two weeks after.
