Inexperience cost Nigeria the 2008 Olympics, Nsofor
The 31-year-old was part of the Nigerian football team that won silver in 2008 at the summer Olympics in Beijing.
Obinna Nsofor has claimed the majority of the players that represented Dream Team iv at the 2008 Olympics were inexperienced.
The former Inter Milan and Malaga forward scored three goals for the team who got to the final before losing out to a Lionel Messi lead Argentine side, although the only goal that separated two sides was scored by Angel Di Maria.
According to Nsofor, the Nigerian side outmuscled the star studded Argentina team, but inexperience of the former gifted the latter the win on the day.
“We outplayed and outmuscled Argentina on that night, but inexperienced caused us,” Nsofor told Omasports.
“The build up to Argentina´s goal, Onyekachi Apam was on Di Maria, and Vanzekin (Goalkeeper) shouldn’t have come out.
“He should have stayed in goal because Apam was already on Di Maria. But he came out thereby giving Di Maria all the space in the world, and he just chipped it in.”
Nsofor was a member of the Nigerian U-20 team that won the gold in Benin at the African Youth Tournament in 2005, but could not make the team that represented Nigeria at the U-20 World Cup same year.
He was capped on 42 occasions by the Nigerian national team, and has 12 goals to his name.
