I’m a striker with the heart of a midfielder, Bemzema
Karim Benzema has described himself as a No. 9 with the heart of a No. 10, following Real Madrid’s 4 – 2 win over Espanyol
Amidst criticisms and calls for the 31-year-old to be put to the bench, he has been repaying the faith of coach Santiago Solari lately – the latest, his massive display that yielded two goals against Espanyol on Sunday.
Speaking after the match, the Frenchman, as quoted by Marca: “I don’t know if this was my best match of the season,
“Each match I want to do more and make nice things happen in the play, while also scoring goals, giving assists and doing a bit of everything.
“People ask a striker to score goals, but I think I am a No.9 who has the soul of a No.10.”
Benzema, so far has contributed a total of 15 goals to Real Madrid’s underwhelming campaign – three more than the 12 he had last season.
The former Lyon striker performance has not gone unnoticed to both teammates and his coach, with Lucas Vasquez describing him as the best striker, while Solari on the other hand, referred to him as ‘a generous player.’
