UNILAG will host best ever NUGA games, Ogundipe boasts

The 12th Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos has promised an outstanding 2019 NUGA Games

 

The Vice-Chancellor of the University Of Lagos Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe asserts that the 2019 Nigeria Universities Games Association (NUGA) will be an unmatched one.

Ogundipe, last weekend, during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the university and NUGA echoed the school preparedness to host an ‘unprecedented NUGA Games.’

According to the Don, the university shares the NUGA ideology, and it is putting things in place to produce multitalented graduates.

“Without being immodest, I can confidently tell you that the University of Lagos is prepared to make the 2019 NUGA Games a memorable one,” the 58-year-old, as quoted by Complete sports said.

He explained further, “We believe in the ideals of NUGA and in the capacity of its sporting competitions to raise all-round graduates who are equipped for solid service to the nation and humanity. That is why we will spare no effort in our preparations.

“The Local Organising Committee (LOC) and its various sub-committees have been set up and their members have been working diligently.

“Our sporting facilities have been upgraded to a world-class standard, such that our young athletes now have the platform to showcase their talents unhindered.”

NUGA games is an interuniversity 15 sports (track and field, badminton, basketball, chess, cricket, handball, hockey, judo, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and volleyball) competition.

The games started in 1966 –  University of Ibadan hosted its maiden edition.

 According to Complete sports, this will be the third time that UNILAG will be hosting the games, 51 years after it hosted the first one in 1968 and the second in 1998.
